Clothing

When going in for your appointment, avoid wearing jewelry or clothing with metallic items including clips, snaps, buttons, and zippers. Metal parts interfere and overshadow the X-Rays, which will result in improper imaging.

During The Test

You may be asked to remove articles of clothing and put on a paper gown. During the x-ray you will be asked to remain completely still while the test is being performed. The test itself is quick and usually lasts only a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the number of images required.

After The Test

Once the x-ray is complete you may be asked to remain at the facility in case more images are required. After you leave, you can resume your daily activities.

Reports

A radiologist will usually view and interpret the images and then send the report to the requesting doctor. Your doctor should explain and discuss the results with you during your follow-up appointment.

Clothing

An ultrasound may require you to remove articles of clothing and you may be asked to put on a paper gown. Some jewelry articles may interfere with the test and may have to be removed. Loose clothing is required for most ultrasound types.

Before The Test

You will be asked into the room after changing into a gown or removing clothing from the area being examined. You may be asked to take up a certain position and stay in that position for the most of the test.

During The Test

A technician would place a lubricating gel onto the area being examined to ensure a device called a transducer makes contact with your skin. For some ultrasound tests (transvaginal and transrectal), the probe is inserted into a natural opening in the body. Most other ultrasound tests are done on the skin surface.

After The Test

You can remove the ultrasound gel with relative ease and no traces. You may go about your daily activities immediately after the test unless otherwise advised by our staff. The reports will be produced by the reading physician and shared with your referring doctor. You may discuss these results with your doctor at a follow-up appointment.

If you’re experiencing breast tenderness due to menstruation you may wish to reschedule. It is also very important to tell your physician and technologist if you have breast implants.

Before The Test

To ensure the best quality images, you may be asked to remove any jewelry or metal objects on your skin. You will also be asked to remove clothing above the waist and wear a paper gown.

During The Test

The images are taken in an upright position with one breast at a time being placed between two x-ray plates. The plates are gradually positioned to compress breast tissue which ensures the best quality image. Once in place, two images are taken of each breast. One image is taken from top to bottom and the other is from side to side.

After The Test

Once the test is complete your breasts may be tender temporarily however you will be able to return to your normal activities.

Results

The images will be interpreted by a radiologist who will share the results with your referring doctor. It is suggested to schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to ensure that a clear explanation of the results is provided.
